With all this talk on Health insurance and fast approaching Medicare myself, I was wondering what those who are 65 were doing these days? Parts A and B seem to be a given, but what else needs to go along with them? A Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage or throwing ones self on the mercy of the VA. I get a complete physical every year to stay VA qualified.
I am not so sure if Supplements and Advantage will be around if Health Care Reform succeeds in it's complete form. Continueing on my wife's policy is not really an option. The total cost for her's is amost $1,400 a month for 2010 with the employer picking up $900 per month. When she retires, her retirement plan will only pick up about 50% of her portion and will cost us $600 - $700 or more per month if I decide to stay with it. Part B is $96 a month, I think, and some of Supplements are $200-$300 a month. Kind of hard for me to pin down costs for the Advantage Plans. I was just wondering what people were doing or planning on doing?? I am thinking Health Care is going to become very confusing for a lot of people in the near future.
Anyone here old enough to be on Medicare?

Despite what the resident old fart says, I am not on Medicare yet! Sheesh!Spare Change wrote:Only RE3, she is older than dirt. I on the other hand am just a spring chicken.
My husband is on Medicare parts A & B. He is fortunate to also have a supplemental through his retirement that is very reasonable. I will be on the same deal when I am eligible for Medicare. However, we have seen quite an erosion in what Medicare pays and suspect it will continue to deteriorate. I'm certain the supplemental will follow suit. While we have the same ins. provider, because it is my primary, I pay higher premium, higher deductible and am in a PPO. It's still good for now but I think this monkey business is gonna ruin it soon.
