A REAL general talk subject
I live in a rural area where my only internet options were dial up (yeah right) and hughes satellite connection. 5 yrs ago we went with satellite. Big dish in the yard and big box next to my pc. Worked great at first....But as popularity grew, so did the price. Yet the connection speed slowed. WTF
Keep in mind I'm what you call "computer stupid", as in I really don't care about the logistics, just get me connected with a decent speed.
So last week, I got the Sprint wireless card for the same money as satellite...TWICE as fast.
What do you use and how does it serve your purpose? At my office we have Bellsouth DSL, which is very fast. At home the Sprint is awesome. We are getting ready to sell the house and move to a new county/city...What should I look for and why?

I have cable internet at home and the cabin...yeah even Russell Co has it! You must really be isolated ___! I have to have high speed for work, so that's the only way I'd go...I've tried DSL, but cable is much faster.

___, I am also in a "NO DSL" area and I took the Verizon Wireless Broadband card route in mid 2006. I love it, wherever I go the internet goes with me. i have a unlimited plan and can use it as much as I want. In 2007 they finally got my towers upgraded where I got a connection just as fast as my friends DSL and like I am sure you know it is way cheaper than the satellite with less maintenance.
I also LOVE the fact that I can take the card and laptop with me on the boat and every once and a while check for oncoming storms, scores, watch the Lexington news via a live stream, etc. Its not full boradband all over the lake yet for Verizon but it is getting there. Around the old Alligator 1 area I crawl down to around 3 times dialup. But in places toward the east I have been getting around 1500kbps. And then all kinds of speeds in between. In Ohio I hit a 3.1 mbps aka 3100kbps connection while headed to Columbus and surrounded by cornfields... lol
Generally at home I average around 1250kbps down and 600kbps up.

Re: A REAL general talk subject
I have DSL at the office and cable at home. Cable seems to be better than the DSL but I'm unable to get cable at the office. If considered doing a fractional T-1 but it's just not cost efficient. The only people that need access are me and my secretary.
This is what I'm getting at the office

Try an OC-3. It really helps that you're basically the internet backbone of a region.FasterThanYou wrote:You guys runnin a DS3 at the office?

Yep good old BFE. Long way off before they bring cable out this far, if ever. Hopefully the house will sell soon and the new house will be in a more civilized location.LC addict wrote:I have cable internet at home and the cabin...yeah even Russell Co has it!
