Snow, Rain, Sleet, Freezing Rain? What say ye?

Post by E_ »

What are you all seeing today?

At my home when I left around 6:50 AM there was around 6 -7" and when I got in Lexington around 7:45 AM it was about 2" with a thick layer of ice on it.

Yep, further North you get the worse it is. Here at the lake it's just rain and 34 degrees. The roads have some slush here and there but the grass, trees, and everything else is covered with ice. I sure hope we don't lose power lines like we did in 2003 during the ice storm when I lived in Lexington. :(

I well remember that ice storm in 03, It was like a different world in the Lake region compared to Lexington. That is when we decided we were in the right Weather zone. We made a trip up I75 to Ohio a few days after the storm and the trees were still Iced over, broken over and it looked like a winter wonder land.

I was working on a project in Somerset at the time and staying at our condo about 3 nights a week. I was one of the very lucky few that never lost power at my house in Lexington. You could drive up I-75 and as soon as you crossed the KY river it was like being in a different world. The ice just seemed to stop right there.

We got ice, then snow, then more ice. I'd say about 3-4' total. Driving in town is ok but the roads out by my house are as bad as I've ever seen them. Broke out the Jeep and I'm having a blast driving around in it. :D

That's quite possible. But according to the police scanner, not too many are hitting anything, just sliding off the roads or getting stuck. Can't get going fast enough to do any damage.

It IS a different world up there. We had a light skimming of ice yesterday morning, but melted through out the day while heavy rains poured ALLDAY. Raining hard right now. SNOW? Yea right. Aint gonna happen here, prove me wrong (I say hoping for a blizzard). The biggest snowfall my teenager has ever seen didnt even cover her boot laces.

I did not get any pics on the 26th of the snow while it was still fluffy and deep. Here is a link to some crappy cell phone shots.

Well, it is a REAL mess here in Northern KY (Hebron). We got about 6 inches of snow at our house over night Monday, yesterday it actually started to get a lot better late in the morning but then it started freezing rain and sleet and didn't stop until about a half hour ago this morning. (8:00 AM) Now we are getting real heavy snow on top of the half inch or so of Ice we have!!!

I don't even know how I am going to get the ice off my truck! My wife stayed at the hotel she works at last night and right now it looks like she is going to have to stay another night! I took a couple of pics and I will try to post them.

See how the snow looks glassy... More snow on the way this afternoon... I think around 3" in Lex and 4+ up my way coming today.

Those trees in the above pic from yesterday afternoon now have a .5" covering on them all around and they left MANY limbs in my path.

I don't have any pics of that though since it was pretty dark when I went through there today.

I just went outside and we have gotten another 3 inches on top of all the ice in the last hour! Basically I can't get my car out of the garage, I wouldn't get it back in and my truck us covered in about a half inch of ice and 3 inches of snow! I hope my wife took a few changes of clothes to the Hotel she may be there for a couple of days! Seeing as how cold it is going to get this afternoon and tonight we are going to be in a mess for a few days!

Right now the snow is coming down at a rate of about 2 inches per hour and has been for the last 2 hours! ARGH! :(

We got some quick snow about 10 AM and I sent all my employees home. Bad decision, the roads were fine by 1 PM. :(

There's a little snow on the grass but not the roads.
