X( So I had a message on my answering machine at home last week from my lcoal KYFB office to call them about our automobile policies. I thought to myself oh great they have raised the rates on everything else including my truck this year so I guess they are going to raise the rates more...

Nope, even more fun. They want to take all of our vehicle policies and put them into one big policy where all of our vehicles are billed together. That might be ok for a typical husband/housewife scenario but my wife and i have EVERYTHING seperate. So having our vehicles slammed together and billed together is just another big PITA. After all the rate hikes already this is pretty much the straw that broke the camels back. I'm ready for a company that is more customer focused...

Not to mention when we had storm damage on our roof that was new when we bought the house (30 year shingles that were 5 years old) they told us the roof was too old to replace and I had to work with the agent and the claims rep to get them to finally cover it after I had a roofer right a statement about the age of the roof. I should have left then.

They tried raising my rates one other time and I got quotes from State Farm and they "fixed" my rates back for me but enough is enough.

Ok, I feel better after getting that out of my system. :ymsigh:

One word: Allstate

Good prices, great service. And it's nice to know I have a real, honest, live, local Agent that I can call anytime and visit personally in his office whenever I need to.

A very satisfied customer.

Right now I am having Madcon from LakeCumberland.com write me up a quote on everything. He is a Shield of Shelter agent and being a fellow boater makes things seem good too... lol

KYFB used to be a good company when we had our old agent we would see him at events etc. Was great on rates even when I was 16 and thus why I kept them when I moved out on my own. But the direction of their service and polices as of the past two years especially is not what I would like to see. Madcon had already beat KYFB's price and coverage for the boat and I was pretty sure I was going to move to him or BoatUS for the boat by the end of this month so now he might just get all of my junk... lol

Bob, I don't know if I have ever done a quote with AllState but I might just have to give that a try too. Nothing against Madcon just making sure I get the best deal. ;)

They were severely overpriced when I had them before I moved to Lexington. A couple months after I moved here I switched to State Farm and got better coverage for a LOT less.

For me State Farm has been running about the same for the same coverage. I did go ahead and get a AllState Agent in Georgetown to start on a quote as well. Hopefully between him and Madcon I should have a new company soon. :)

It seems they all love to give you a great rate to come over, then they slowly raise them in hopes you don't notice and start shopping again. I have been bouncing between Allstate, Liberty Mutual, and State farm my entire life.

KYFB didn't raise it slowly... They were doing $180-$40 jumps per year per policy x 6 policies...

Ok, so I have switched. This started out just shopping for new boat insurance because KYFB raised my boat insurance this year like they did my truck insurance this year and also my motorcycle last year. (no wrecks or violations).

It’s a pretty funny turn of events since GT left All State (in LC.com Thread) and now for me I have moved to them per a post from Captain Bob above to check them out. Now it did take some research on the part of the Georgetown, KY All State Agency Manager to make sure I was properly covered. As many have stated before All State has the 5% clause for anything above and beyond the coverage on the policy. Many have taken that to be that recovery would only be paid out of the 5% but what he and I found was that ( and it is in writing/literature from All State) is that if my boat is worth "x" amount I can add "x" amount to that part of the policy and then when the boat is replaced out of that "bucket" of money anything left can go to recovery etc. For me since my boat is not too large I figured $5k should be enough for recovery (correct me if I am wrong Captain Don and I will adjust my policy). If for some reason there was a little more than the extra 5k the agent put in the policy it then goes over to the 5% of the total boat coverage amount but I am thinking that the 5K should have me covered. Furthermore for other fees such as environmental fees etc. it clearly states in the policy that part is covered under the liability portion of the policy which in my case I did 300k across the board instead of the 100/300k default (just getting paranoid about all those bigger and better houseboats with their super high price paint jobs lol). I also ended up with medical coverages for occupants etc. that were above and beyond what I had on the KYFB policy. Oh and by the way I saved about $75 a year on the boat compared to KYFB. The price was right in line with Boat US and the coverage reads about the same except for how the recovery "bucket" is used.

Having said all of that they also got my house and vehicles except for my motorcycle since they said they would be more than happy to take on my motorcycle but at the time they just can't beat Progressive on it.

So thanks Captain Bob for the nudge as for me (and i know it differs for each person, boat, region, etc.) it ended up being in the right direction and saved me $600 a year on vehicles for better coverage and cost me about $30 more a year on the house which I'll take any day with the $600 and $75 savings. ;)

Happy to hear that it worked out so well for you, E.

Some of the best advice that I was ever given: Always shop around and always compare "apples to apples" before commiting to spending a lot of money.

A few hours of research beforehand is a whole lot better than months of aggravation afterwards. ;)
