You've got to be kidding me!?!?!?!?

Post by MissSwitzerland »

ATHERTON, Calif. — A California school teacher was placed on paid administrative leave after he rattled a table to get the attention of his math students, startling an eighth-grade girl who used her cell phone to call police.

Atherton police Sgt. Tim Lynch tells the Palo Alto Daily News that officers went to Selby Lane School Tuesday afternoon because of reports a teacher was causing a disturbance.

Officers found a calm teacher with class in session.

The sergeant says the teacher's table-rattling startled a student and she used her cell phone to call 911. He says other students in the class weren't bothered by the teacher's actions.

Redwood City School District deputy superintendent John Baker says the teacher was placed on leave because there was a police response.

#1 - why did an eighth grader have a cell phone with her in class, not to mention having it at all! #2 - if rattling a table scared this girl, she has issues! #3 - poor teacher is on paid leave because one person in his class was upset? Good heavens!!!!!!! What is this world coming to?

That's what happens when you have numb-nuts administrators who are skeered of their own shadow! And they'll then blame it on the teachers' "unions" instead of doing their job and standing for a teacher when necessary or documenting poor teaching so that one can be fired (yes...even one with tenure if you have the documentation). Get out of your freakin' office and see what's really going on in your school. Stand up to snotty kids, parents and teachers when necessary and support staff when necesssary. Ain't hard to do iffin ya do the job you're supposed to be doing! It ain't rocket science, doofus! X( X( X(

Ditto :ymapplause: :ymapplause: Discipline has to be made a priority in the schools today, before any teaching can become effective. Teachers and I have to admit, administrators are overwhelmed being mother, father, attention to whinny parents and nursemaids before teaching is applied. The amount of disrespect in a classroom by students is unbelievable. Teaching is about an 7 to 7 job now with all the testing, grading, entering those grades, evaluating, fun time things for kids to do and on and on. I have seen educators at school til 8 or 9 in the evening. And that's not if you are working on the mandatory Masters degree. O:-) O:-) My little angel is the best little kid ever. 8-} 8-} Never crab about a teacher unless you have walked in their shoes for just a short period of time. It is a profession I would not recommend to anyone in this day and age. I ain't no teacher :D but wife is retired and son was but decided that the BS and disrespect in the classroom wasn't worth the little money.
