Re: Mini Dehumidifier
Is that the rechargeable one? dad had MAJOR humidity issues in his 6x8' safe and he got two of those and all seems to be much better. I would not get into that safe for months and apparently he never did as he normally uses the smaller 4x4' safes for the guns he uses the most... The big safe would not just get rust but MOLD all over everything... Even if I kept WD40 on everything. This last time I cleaned everything with rubbing alcohol and then put furniture polish on the wood and oil on the metal and put it all back with those things and all seems to be good after a year.

yes it's rechargeable. has an indicator window that changes color, they claim 30 to 60 days [depending on ambient moisture ] remove it from the safe and plug it into a wall outlet for 10 - 12 hours to regenerate some sort of water glass crystals.
found this unit in Cabela's catalog.$34.99 +S&H
question is,will the d@mn thing work or not..for 35 bucks i guess we shall see
WD-40 is a definite no after it drys it tends to attract moisture or so i'm told.
I've been using Remington "REM OIL " or PB Blaster silicone spray..still got rust.

Hmm, never knew that about WD (that means some of the mold/moisture from before might have been my fault from when I was cleaning them for him) Yikes.

My cabnet is in the basement. I check them about twice a year. I always wipe them off after I handle them with a silicon gun wipe and have always used WD40. No rust after 30 years with some, AND they were in 2 floods in the basement, neither reached the guns, but plenty of moisture. I am a beleiver in WD!
Re: Mini Dehumidifier
here is some thoughts on using W-D on guns..

Re: Mini Dehumidifier
Maybe I am just lucky. But I have never had any of the issues they all talked about. I have NO rust either.
