Re: Lake Cumberland Grand Prix 2010
Wrong end of the lake, period. Last year was ok, but no way would I burn a bunch more fuel to see it again. And from the sounds of it watching from the water may not be the best choice anyways. If they are able to use the service road on the dam in the future that will be a great set up for everyone.
Of course I have the same feeling about the record raft up too. Just don't understand why they would not do it nearer the largest population of boats on the lake?
Hope those that go have a good time.

Re: Lake Cumberland Grand Prix 2010
I could have sworn I saw a boat named "White Knights" sitting in the lot at Cumberland Sea Ray. Heck, that's just next door to where the race is going to be. Very little fuel needed.WhiteNights wrote:Wrong end of the lake, period. Last year was ok, but no way would I burn a bunch more fuel to see it again.

That is true, sitting high and dry for going on 4 weeks now. They finally started the bottom paint yesterday and promise me I will be back in the water Friday. Sure hope they mean this Friday
I suppose they could keep me out longer and drop me in at Conley, that would save the trip up the lake. But seen one go fast, you've seen them all, and that inlcudes you too

Re: Lake Cumberland Grand Prix 2010
Heck, your boat is probably as fast as ours.
The kids want to be on the water for it whereas I know of a great place we can watch it from land.
We'll have to see next weekend. As of now, the boat is still in storage. I may leave it there a few more weeks until the lake clears up some more.

Oh RE3 you really are evil... lol
I think the old tunnel would be a good spot to set up for the day...
Since it is on the east end this year I almost can't resist going since it is that much closer.

Re: Lake Cumberland Grand Prix 2010
Here is my take on the whole OSS and raft up thing......
first off, it is my understanding that there will not be a spot for people to watch the race from the water, on a boat. So, what's the point in even going up there if that is the case? Just wondering...and I may be totally wrong?!
next, i will prolly go wherever the raft up is going to be, but it does make sense to have it closer to where the majority of boaters are and closer to state dock (being that bill is putting a party barge and whatever out there)?! or at least close to harmon since that is a well known spot and easy place to find.
just sayin'...........

Re: Lake Cumberland Grand Prix 2010
YEs you can park a boat and watch the OSS race but once you are there you are there... (in certain spots you can't leave during the race)
As for the raftup it is a very quick boat ride from state dock to where they are having it... Especially in a boat like yours bubbles.

Re: Lake Cumberland Grand Prix 2010
Hmmmmm.......the major LC marinas each just kicked in $5000 apiece (LFM-$10,000) for the Grand Prix! (Saw this in a special edition of the Somerset Commonwealth-Journal) Maybe they're all a little short and need some more revenue! JMHO!

Jun On-water spectator information for Lake Cumberland Grand Prix race weekend
OSS event organizers maintain the optimal viewing spots for this weekend’s Lake Cumberland Grand Prix will be on land at the Waitsboro Recreation Area, located just past Traffic Light 29 off U.S. 27 South. To utilize the race parking and shuttle services, please click the following link to read details on that system:
http://www.lakecumberlandgrandprix.com/ ... /#more-193
But if you are watching the Lake Cumberland Grand Prix by water from a boat, please keep the following information in mind. Water spectator areas and barrier lines will be marked by OSS race officials and will be clearly visible. Boaters who wish to watch the race from either the far left or right sides of the course will be able to boat up near those spectator lines to watch racing on Saturday and Sunday and leave as they please. These spectator lines are represented by the red lines that can be viewed by clicking the following link and viewing an interactive course map:
http://www.lakecumberlandgrandprix.com/race-course/
However, there is one spectator area nearest the entrance to Waitsboro Recreation Area that is within the race course itself. Viewing from a boat in that area–which on land would run between Waitsboro Drive and Lakeview Drive–has restrictions which are as follows: Once a boater enters this viewing area to watch the race on Saturday and Sunday, he or she may NOT boat out of this designated spectator area after race activities begin, and can only leave once those race activities conclude each day. On Saturday, this would be between the hours of 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and Sunday between 11:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Boaters who wish to abide by these restrictions and view from this on-water area are advised to bring plenty of sunscreen, water, and food for themselves and their guests for these extended viewing times.

(Wish more people would take pics and post them)
Sorry Rooster, I did not take a real camera so I did not get any pics of the race boats...
Here are a few other pics from the day:
Fueling up Friday Night
A moving raftup (they just could not figure out how to anchor) I did have to put out about 230' of anchor line to get mine to hold properly. My Brother Ken and JPatton watch passing boats - Pontoon Boat called Wet Dreams and A Coast Guard boat. Boats watching the race Mental Floss JPatton and Ken Playin in the rain Rafted up with a group (this happened because my brother swam over to them and apparently acted stranded and hung out with them. lol What a goof! It also appears he had control of my camera phone at times... lol Mounting their LakeCumbelrandBoaters Flag on their boat Beverage Passin in the WFO (kinda scared me since the F&W was in force)
Barry, someone you know? Pulling in to Leesford for dinner LMAO, in the LFM Ship Store
Great evening

ANy I took were accidents
You must be one though for noticing...
However I do admit after scrolling up and looking back through them it does appear that way. I think it was more of a ineebriated guy just taking pictures and since the bigger part of the raftup was to their starboard that is where most people were looking at the time. Heck even the pics of my brother are all of his backside... lol
