U.S. calls distracted driving an ‘epidemic’

Im sorry since i am sure a lot of you will disagree with me but I think the Distracted Driving laws will be just another law to replace situations where common sense should prevail. I for one think that the people that wreck while texting would wrec...k while tuning the radio (something that has been in cars for decades) etc. Next thing you know there will be a law that you can not talk to someone that is in the car with you. Come one people quit letting the government get bigger and keep controlling us more! More people are killed by people that are NOT texting and driving than are so what is next? They will find something those people are doing. Next thing you know all those hundreds of people I have seen picking their nose while driving will be getting arrested for doing that. GEEEEZ!

Driving while distracted is a growing peril in a U.S. reluctant to put down its cell phones and handheld devices even behind the wheel, the Obama administration declares.

I'm with these guys from the comments thread... I dare say if they did not have a cell phone in their hands most of the ones driving stupid still would be even if empy handed.

No. It will take more than a ban to get people to put away their mobile devices.

Sorry but I'm not giving my liberty away for a false sense of security. Those of you who do deserve neither!

Re: U.S. calls distracted driving an ‘epidemic’
This is not news to me. The #1 cause of all accidents for years has been driver inatention. And yes, I think texting has a lot to do with it these days. Even just talking on the phone. I got behind 2 different people just today who were driving erratically. Driving 30 in a 55, then 45, then back to 30. She was on the phone. 2nd person.... Red light turned green and she sat there a good 5 seconds before I honked. ON THE PHONE. Some do ok, but most forget all train of thought and are a danger to us all.
As an insurance agent I hate it because a few idiots makes all of our rates go up. And I have to explain that every day to my clients who have never had a claim.

Re: U.S. calls distracted driving an ‘epidemic’
Well I guess that is a good sad story but still that accident could have happened if he was tuning his radio or looking at a deer on the side of the road. Then again it could have just happened... I have texted while I drove and i have never crossed the center line as stated in the video so I dare say this guy was not a good driver to begin with. Millions do it daily and there are not millions of texting crashes daily...
Now the poor guy sits in jail while Libya's Kadafi is partying in a tent in New York... Way to go America... Like I said there are even more accidents from people that are not texting etc. what will we find to put them away for as well? Where will it stop before people realize $hit happens. If someone hits me while they are texting and it kills me don't put them in jail. Just someone punch them in the face once for me and that will be good enough.

Re: U.S. calls distracted driving an ‘epidemic’
The best I have ever witnessed is a young girl who almost hit me in a parking lot. I rolled down my window and told her to be more careful. She yelled at me " OLD MAN CAN'T YOU SEE I AM ON THE PHONE". So I had wished that that law was in effect that day. I will take a call while driving. But most of the time I will tell them I will call back, or yes, ole Spare has pulled over!

Re: U.S. calls distracted driving an ‘epidemic’
I knew i would be mostly alone on this one... lol
But really she was just a rude lil b1tch and I am sure would have been doing makeup anyway. Are we going to get those people that are reading the paper, eating food, drinking a pop, etc. ? Where does it end?
And I don't want to hear about any of you that are for it using your GPS, tuning your radio, or listening to instructions from your gps as it "distracts" you... LOL So go ahead and take those things out of your car right now as if this type of stuff passes in 10 years the govt will have done it for you.

Garmen has a disclaimer when you turn it on that you will not touch it while you are driving. You know that works! But you still have to agree to it or it won't turn on.

The way I see it...
Some people are very good at multi-tasking. Be it driving or whatever.
Then there are those that can't 'drive' and chew gum at the same time.
Know what I mean?
