Bought a new boat today...
lol, well maybe I should have said a Canoe.. I've been thinking about it for a while with all the Elkhorn access around Georgetown. Its like $60 to rent one each time at Canoe Ky so if this thing holds up it will pay for itself. I might should have gotten a shorter one with the flat back for a trolling motor and then I could have used it as a tender but this is better suited for the Creek.
(It was on Amazon.com for 499 plus free prime shipping and tax. Found it at the home depot for 449 plus tax and free shipping.)
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Sun-Dolphin- ... /204678643 Its the past model but exactly the same specs as the new model that came out this year.
These are 4" wider then the ones I have canoed on the Elkhorn and are supposed to be more stable, made of the same material, have a 3rd seat and have dry storage with a cooler. I figured worth a try with reviews of people that have had them for a while being favorable and the price was 200-400 below the Old Towne etc.. Thought on weekends I can't go to Cumberland, Avery and I could use on one of Dad's lakes or the Elkhorn.

E, it looks like you bought a very nice one. Good Job!
The Stainless Steel chain on the "Head" cover is a nice detail touch. LOL
Regarding the outdrive... I actually have one of those 90 degree offsets (at the bottom) but I can tell you it wouldn't last an hour underwater.

Re: Bought a new boat today...
Thanks, I thought about a 30lb thrust minn kota that I can get on Amazon.com new for 89.99 with free shipping. That with a $100 battery should do nicely. The thought was it might help when I have my daughter with me as by myself paddling is easy, with a friend even better, but I'm not sure how it will go with a 4 year old in the front when it comes to steering etc. hence I felt the outdrive could give me more control.
...but the hassle of hauling the motor and setting it up and taking it back off, etc. etc. I just don't know if its worth it.

Re: Bought a new boat today...
Well you guys have missed quite a saga... The Canoe Came in Badly damaged. I called customer service because it was not worth keeping. This is worse damage than pic shows. The one pic's indention goes all the way through like from a forklift. So I don't know how long the thing would last before it would be a epoxy queen.
It was my first home depot ordering experience and I was about to never use them again but this was thus far a pleasant experience if the new one arrived in good shape.
A week or so goes by....and well so much for that. Took off work to receive canoe number 2. Truck pulls up and starts to push it out of the truck and I asked him to open the covering (basically a plastic woven sheet) and let me inspect before he goes to the trouble of taking it off the truck. I get up in the truck, cut the cover off and guess what. Not as bad as the first boat BUT still had two big deep scrapes in it. Sure it was usable bla bla bla but if you buy something new it should look new. So I refused the shipment and it is on its way back. I have been triply assured that number 3 will be encased in foam etc. and inspected bla bla bla... Here we go again. Not happy at all at that point even with yet another additional set of discounts....
So yesterday Canoe 3 arrived, it was not wrapped in foam but at least this time was on a looong pallet instead of them handling the canoe by itself, I got in the truck, removed the cover. ... .. ... ...and it was in good shape and they delivered after hours so I didn't have to take off work!
Finally I can now get to at some point have some little mini adventures on the Elkhorn with my daughter.
After quite a while on the phone with customer service deciding on if I would give them another shot and if I would take it back to a home depot store or ship it I ended up telling them to come get it themselves. Instead they told me to just destroy it.... So I ended up with up with one beat up canoe and another one on order as Home Depot just told me they would refund the old one, ship a new one at a 15% discount. And asked me to destroy the one I have.It was my first home depot ordering experience and I was about to never use them again but this was thus far a pleasant experience if the new one arrived in good shape.
