Antenna

Post by Fall Creek »

Alright, I have seen alot of great questions answered on here and I am having trouble figuring this one out.

Here is the situation: I have a very large metal building, retail, steel construction with metal siding. I have multiple people who work for me, including myself, that are volunteer firefighter. We carry Mintor V pagers and are having alot of trouble receiving pages. I was told that if I would place a antenna on the roof, and a antenna inside the building and connected them the "frequency waves" would transmit right through the antennas and we might have better reception. Question is what kind of antenna should I use? I have an old tv antenna will that work?

Like I said having trouble with this one, let me know if you can think of anything that will help.

Marina/Ramp: Currently mostly out of Jamestown but spend a lot of time at the other Marinas.

Pre2012-Conley Bottom Mostly, Waitsboro, Alligator I&II ramps, Leesford, Pulaski County Park (when it has water), Grider, State Dock (via boat), and Jamestown are a few places you might find me.

I have no clue Fall Creek but I CAN tell you that the pager compaines are reducing their towers at a VERY FAST rate. Move all paging from pagers to your cell phones. I can help with ideas for that with the fire department if needed.

Since you bring that up E let me get your opinion on this. There has been a big push up here to take all of our radios to the new Marcs system. It's a digital radio like your cell phone instead of an analog radio. The problem we are having with switching is that our reception and communication drops drasticly when we enter a structure, especially if we have to go into a basement. This make us hesitant to switch we wouldn't want to have a mayday go out and no one hear it!

That is because with digital you either HAVE it or you don't. There is not really in between. I would stick with analog radios or make sure better base sites are setup.

Marine Assist is pretty knowledgeable with antenna systems.
