I want to state that I have no problem with any of the mods at .com. They have always been good to me and some times that ain't easy. I do have a problem with the POst POlice jumping in ONLY when there is turmoil! That thread is locked so I can't respond. But trust me I would have. I also would have posted a email from C that states a differant picture. It just takes some folks longer to read a book than others. Nuff said. Until they ban me I will continue to post away over there, same as i do here. Just more fun here.

Awww heck, most of us know the true root of the problems over there. Hence, the reason I rarely post anything anymore. I just got fed up with over moderation and not being able to state an opinion unless the powers that be agreed. I had multiple exchanges (pleasant) via u2u with Jerry but he never would answer any direct questions. He'd skirt the issue and try to change the subject. I quit frequenting lc.com at that time.

C-line built that forum. It was "his" baby. As such, the owner of the site left him alone to run it as he wanted to. C-line ran it well (in my opinion). He was just the "type" needed to keep things in check, yet still allow some borderline topics. He took great pride in it and the way he could "direct" thread topics one way or another simply by inputting little posts in here and there. It was as if the forum was a "social experiment" to him. He was a wealth of knowledge, yet never overly proud and did not need to prove anything to anybody. He would be mad at me for saying so, but he was very much "political" in the way he handled things, much like a successful car salesman, sort of. He had a way of slapping your hands now and then, but still having your respect for doing so.

Now, when he died, the owner of the website was left with a huge hole over there. Because he had never HAD to be involved before, he did not know too much about the inner workings of the whole thing. He stated to the moderators that he did not want ANY borderline topics and certainly NOTHING slanderous. He is very concerned of internet lawsuits and the like and as such he instructed the mods there not to allow anyting even close to that to be out there on the site. They are simply doing what they are instructed to do. Personally, I think that is a little overboard. Now, could that order be carried out differently, of course. Each person will have their own style. I know Squak by meeting him several times in person on the lake and talking with him on the phone. He is a college teacher. He has a wealth of knowledge about several subjects and would do about anything for you if you were to ask and he cares deeply for the lake area. At one point he wanted to pay me in full to remove the houseboat at 76 Falls, just to make the area better for all. I refused the take the money from him. He is following to the letter exactly what the site owner has asked him to do, but in his own style. That style is different than C-line's style. C-line never had to answer to the guidelines that are now in place either, so that also makes a difference.

I am not judging one way or the other on the topic, just simply giving my rendition of what I know of the back story. Take it for what it is worth. I have met all of the people concerned in person over the last 5 years, so I do have that.

This thread can ride (just no out and out harsh statements about anyone. Everyone is doing great thus far. If the LC.com mods etc. have an issue with it they are more than welcome to post in this thread or just e-mail me. If it is a major issue to them I will comply with what seems fair just to keep the two forums civil with each other.

Having said that I too have met Squak and I liked him in person and look forward to seeing him again. HOWEVER the handling of Re3 was a bit over the top (IMO) and it appears others have been rubbed the same way. I know i am not without fault and I do it as well but generally when multiple members give me hell about something I try to find some middle ground and let it be. lol Squak kinda reminds me of Captain Bob. WOw, I can remember some nights he had me in absolute fits yet over time he and I same to understand each other better and his sting was not as bad from there on... Now Bob is one of the many that I enjoy taking to on the net.

Jerry did indeed have his own rule with the site and at one poing the site was actually registered under HIS name and was switched. The "site" was his but the servers etc. from what I understand were Dave's. The current mods/admins don't have it as nice but most have a little more easy hand when they dispense the hand slapping and get their point across without too much downtalking. It is a very hard job as several of us on here know. Hopefully there was a lesson learned from it and I wish there would be an apology to some members so that everyone could move forward and try again.

I have laid low and not commented and this will be my last. When I called Squak a know it all I was frustrated at the way he went about things and treated people. I still stick by that statement but being a know it all is not a bad thing and he took it way too personal and U2U'd me with the same style he used on LC.com. I was perfectley fine to leave it at me having my perception of him and his of me but he could not let it die. He had to be right. Then he made a poor decision and took our disagreement to Lc.com. Called me out personally. I never responded and still haven't.
I have ZERO doubt that Squak is a good person. I tried to tell him that in some U2Us. I think he is very smart no doubt a good citizen. I was talking about the perception he carries with him on LC.com.
If I saw him broke down on the lake i would offer help(not sure if he would take it now) and I would hope he would help me. I have very good freinds that are know it alls and I could be considered one too. Squak just could not take it that someone had that perception him and somewhere there is the root of the issue. Its just my opinion and perception. I think he is on the right bus(lc.com) and brings a wealth of knowlege. I just think he is in the wrong seat(mod).

First of all, please understand that I am NOT an Administrator or Mod anymore (on any Forum). I am here only as a registered member just as you are and I have absolutely no say in how ANY forum is administered. Do I have opinions as to how forums are run? Probably. Do I think that changes would improve things? Perhaps. Will I publicly express my thoughts? Certainly not. I inherited the hot seat on a Forum about a year ago and, from what I understand, I did a pretty lousy job.

That having been said, I want to publicly express my thanks to Don (Marine Assist) for his post above. Don, perhaps more than anyone else (maybe E) has had extended insight into the situation that existed just after Jerry died as well as in the months since. His comments are stated without prejudice, emotion or hidden meaning. Don Hunter is a class act and would be a very good forum Administrator if only he had the time to apply to it.

One last comment and I will get back into my hole... I don't profess to have been Cumberline's "best friend" (as some others have po-pooed to be) nor do I claim that he and I saw eye-to-eye on everything (we didn't). However, he and I did work together well for many years in the Bunker with a shared objective of making the Forum the best it could be. I can attest that things were not always rosy during his tenure (as some would like to think it was) and he was known to use his own judgement when banning people or editing their posts. He was the "Boss" if you remember- and he answered to no one. Sort of like Walter Cronkite, he was admired and trusted even when he made mistakes. Jerry was a super guy and he put his heart and soul into his work. May he rest in peace.

I think Don and Bob has said it all. It's a lot like when the big company comes in and buys out mom and pop in a small town. They may have the same stuff but it will never be the same. Even if mom and pop hand picked the buyer and thought the place is in good hands when they are gone slowly the new owners will put their personal touches on it. Like it or not New customers will never know what they missed old ones will never forget what they had.

I'm just proud to say I was an active member during the glory days of lakecumberland.com. It was a special place and thank you Bob because we all know you were a big part of it too.
