Sorry Capt. Don, but this is not true. Usually you get it right but I had to clarify this one. I was in the boat and we were no where near the cut through when we lost the outdrive. Just wanted to let everyone know that not everything you hear is true. Even from the pros(but I've been coming to LC for 20yrs and would have never tried going through low gap at this level). And yes, I say Marine Assist is a professional operation. But we all get it wrong sometimes.
That being said, if it weren't for MA, that boat would have sunk. So anyone with a single engine small boat, you shuold check your insurance and make sure it covers Marine Assist service. If not, I suggest looking into getting a Marine Assist memebership. It was a very scary day for us.
Well, it took me 10 minutes to get to you after I got your MAYDAY call on the radio. At that time I met up with you guys being towed by another boat and you were heading through the Low Gap cut through. You had been under tow for 10 minutes and it took some time to simply get tied up the the boat towing you. That means the incident happened on the opposite side of the Low Gap cut through from Jamestown, somewhere in front of the State Park. The lake water level was at full pool then, because this was before the dam had been an issue. It was my first season here, my second week here, my 3rd call here and first MAYDAY here.
So, no, I was not there at the actual "site" where it happened, but I can pretty much put the pieces together.
And you are right about not believing everything you read online.
I appreciate the "plug" though.
