Eric Burton wasn’t able to drive his treasured 1973 Dodge Charger to Somernites Cruise on Saturday, but his parents and younger brothers made the trip from Danville for him.
“We pulled in today and it was like ‘I wish he were here,’” said Sandy Burton, Eric’s mother.
And it’s obvious the rest of Eric’s family is thinking of him — whether it be Memorial Day weekend, or any day of the year.
Eric — an avid car enthusiast — is currently stationed on the U.S.S. George Washington near Japan. He joined the U.S. Navy in January 2007 and deployed overseas in April 2008. His duty keeps him away from his family for long periods of time, and Sandy and Dan emphasized that they really don’t know when Eric will be returning home.
And coincidentally Eric’s older brother, Timothy, 22, is stationed on a destroyer near Japan as well.
