Dear lakecumberlandboaters.com forum members:
I wanted to make you aware of what is going on in Russell County, Kentucky.
I am on a committee called “Revive Russell”. We have been successful in our efforts to get a vote on the ballot in 2016 that will ask the question "Are you in favor of the sale of alcoholic beverages in Russell County, Kentucky?" On November 19, 2015, Revive Russell turned in almost three times the necessary number of signed petitions needed to put the vote on the ballot. The certification of the petitions has been completed and the special option election vote date has been set for Tuesday, January 19, 2016.
When this vote passes the result will be that all of Russell County will go "Wet"! The legal sale of alcohol could be established by the summer of 2016. Licensed package stores will be able to sell beer, wine and hard liquor. Restaurants, including the Rowena Landing Restaurant at Lake Cumberland State Resort Park, will be able to serve alcoholic beverages by the glass. Grocery stores, gas stations, K-Mart, etc. will be able to sell malt beverages. This will surely attract more businesses to the county, thus bringing more jobs and an overall better quality of life to the area. This will also have a positive impact on your experiences in our county.
By law all taxes collected from the sale of alcohol goes directly to our law enforcement officials who can then help with the enforcement of the legal sales of alcohol. Funds that typically were earmarked for law enforcement in the past will then be freed up to be used for other needs of the county.
If you would like more information on our initiative you can go to our Face Book page called “Revive Russell Community” and read more about our group's efforts. Please “Like” and “Share” our page with your friends and family!
Thank you,
Debbie Schumann, Revive Russell Committee Member

Russell County Voters Approve Sale of Alcohol
Russell County voters have voted to allow the sale of alcoholic beverages across the county. After several months of intense and sometimes heated campaigns, voters finally had a chance Tuesday to state their opinion on the ballot initiative which will permit alcohol sales in the county. As expected, there was strong support from Jamestown and Lake precincts which helped the YES side prevail by a total of 410 votes countywide. The final tally was 3833 in favor of allowing the sale of alcoholic beverages in Russell County, to 3423 against.
More than 50% of registered voters in the county actually voted Tuesday on the question, making it one of the largest turnouts in Russell County in recent memory. The last countywide wet dry election in Russell County was in 1992, where it was defeated by a better than 2 to 1 margin.

Below is our core committee. There were a lot more people who volunteered their time and we truly appreciate it. We couldn't have done it without everyone's help!
