Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - They are calling her hope.
The Border Collie that was tossed out of a car window along I-65 is in worse condition than originally thought and authorities are still searching for whomever did this to her.
A lot of people have been calling WHAS11 wanting to know what is going to happen to the dog.
The 4-year-old Border Collie, named Hope by veterinarians, has spinal problems, a broken leg, cuts and bruises after being thrown from a car on the highway.
Metro animal services took the dog from the Jefferson Animal Clinic at the Outer Loop, 20 minutes away to a specialty vet hospital at Magisterial Drive for surgery.
"When we pinch her toes, she can still feel that. I'm not going to pester her right now. She has given us indications she has feeling there which is a little glimmer of hope but I'm anxious to hear what the neurologist has to say," said Dr. Terri Fowler of the Jefferson Animal Hospital.
The dog was tossed out of a small dark car driving south on I-65 near the horse stables at the fairgrounds, Tuesday night.
Hope was hit by a car and ended up near the median. Police want to know who's responsible.
The dog also had fleas with patches of fur missing.
Veterinarians did the best they could Tuesday night but Hope needs more help and is now in the care of specialists.
"It's really difficult to say how long it will take but I think it's going to be a long road for her," said Jackie Gulbie of Metro Animal Services.
It could take a month or longer for Hope to recover, if things go well.
