(AP) - A newspaper is reporting that Kentucky football coach Rich Brooks could announce Monday whether he's going to stay with the team.
Brooks had told his Wildcats after they lost to Clemson on Dec. 27 in the Music City Bowl that he was "80 percent" sure he would not return in 2010.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reported Sunday that Brooks spent his time since then in Lexington, mulling over his options with family and friends.
Brooks wouldn't say whether he had made up his mind.
But in an interview with the Herald-Leader and The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhart said he wanted Brooks to return.
The 68-year-old Brooks led the Wildcats to a 7-6 record this season and 39-47 mark in seven seasons.

I am going to be optimistic. However I rarely promote and assistant manager to replace a manager in a facility whether they did good or bad. I am not sure how you expect the assistant to do better than his boss. If the assistant is that good then they would been better.
I really like Joker so I hope he does well!

WTF. Go Toppers??!! Red is the new blue, after all-- LMAO, where is BATMAN?? I have never understood and always hated the idea of a coach in waiting, it's such b.s., no door open for anybody else-- why?? How can an a.d. have that much power? Which high profile recruit says "I wanna play for Joker Phillips"?? Can somebody name one? Other than those few of us that know he was a player at UK, who else does? Who cares??? UK football sucks and it always will with these no-names running the show. We need a coach Cal level FOOTBALL coach, somebody high profile, or we will never see anything but mediocre out of league play and the usual azz-stomping in the SEC. UK can afford to pay the right one(s) to coach. We just need to be begging and pleading and throwing Benjamins at a super fast rate. The bones are already there, they just need MUSCLE. UK superfans can't and won't keep carrying the program from stadium to stadium, filling the seats impressively, forever.
