What lies at the heart of the division between the Secular Left and the Christian Right in America is a debate over the nature of truth. Evangelical Christians believe that truth is objective and universal, which means that there is absolute truth which applies to all people, in all cultures, for all times. Evangelicals recognize that this objective and absolute truth is found ultimately in the one true God of the universe and in His revelation given to us personally in Jesus Christ and in the Bible. As a result of God having revealed absolute truth to humanity, Evangelical Christians believe that lives and societies are best governed by adhering to the principles and guidelines that God has given. After all, when an omniscient (all-knowing) and loving God personally reveals Himself and the correct path for humans to follow, it only makes sense to hold fast to His guidance. And it is the Evangelical insistence on adhering to God’s absolute truth found in His word that stokes the Secular Left’s ire.

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer:

It takes time — and deeply significant actions — to embed oneself into the Left’s emotional core. Regardless, it seems entirely reasonable for Brewer to be on this list. The Left’s response to Arizona’s legitimate attempt to enforce federal immigration laws has been stunning. And Brewer has thus become the symbol for them to direct their wrath.

Grover Norquist:

Norquist’s notorious statement that he longs to shrink government until it’s so small that it can be drowned in a bath tub strikes terror into the heart of the Left. And the fact that he’s an effective, tenacious activist in pursuit of that goal makes him even more intolerable.

Newt Gingrich:

The Left doesn’t forget — at least not when it comes to supposed crimes committed against them by the Right. (They do a great job of “forgetting” every piece of evidence that proves their policies don’t work and that their movement was responsible for 100 million deaths in the 20th century.) Thus Gingrich’s role as the principal antagonist of the Clinton Agenda in the ’90s will forever be buried in the Left’s heart.

However he remains a threat today. He is one of the most articulate, compelling, and intellectual of conservative strategists, continually charting strategic road maps to victory.

Thomas Sowell:

What’s the Left’s answer with someone like Thomas Sowell, an unquestionably brilliant economist and scholar? You can’t just dismiss him as an idiot. How could a black man dedicate his life to intellectually strengthening the conservative movement to the degree that Sowell has? Within the prism of the Left there’s no legitimate answer other than the obvious one that can’t be confronted: maybe he’s got legitimate, thoughtful reasons for his ideas. So the only recourse is to hate.

Michelle Malkin:

Michelle Malkin has been hitting the right notes for a long time now. I recall when her syndicated column first began and the visceral reactions that would follow her articles in the letters to the editor. And remember her early book In Defense of Internment and how it drove the lying worm Max Blumenthal to confront her on camera?

She was also the columnist on the Right to make the most effective transition to New Media, effectively becoming one of the key players and giving birth to the glorious Hot Air.

Andrew Breitbart:

Breitbart understands what so many conservatives do not: the conflict with the Left is not an intellectual debate, it’s a war. His take-down of Blumenthal above is one of the best examples of him putting this principle into action.

With his Big Blogs he’s leading the way and setting the standards for how the Left is fought online. Everyone on the Right online — including NRB — is just following his lead.
Jonah Goldberg:

Goldberg’s reason for his placement this prominent on the list is because of his smash bestseller Liberal Fascism. While he’s certainly a valuable player on the Right because of his columns and blogging it’s this big red brick that came crashing down on the Left in 2008. Just the title and cover image alone are like nails on a chalkboard to the Left

Senator Jim Inhofe:

To merely express doubt about man causing global warming is an unspeakable heresy. To those schooled in The Church of Al Gore, that humanity expelling CO2 into the atmosphere will kill us all is as settled as germ theory.

So to challenge it head on is unpardonable. Such a person is an enemy of the planet itself.

Is there anyone more prominent and more aggressive challenging the Left on this subject than Inhofe? I don’t think so.

Franklin Graham:

Leftists really hate Franklin Graham for one important reason: he stands in stark contrast to his father Billy in choosing to clearly stand on the Right. When I was a “progressive” in college I lamented how he had abandoned his father’s approach of trying to keep quiet about politics and play both sides. (Remember when Billy suggested that Bill Clinton should become an evangelist so that Hillary could run the country?) Leftists wish that Christians would just shut up, go to church on Sundays, and stand by while their country gets destroyed.

Franklin also got plenty of heat for being willing to tell the truth about Islam.
