San Fran and now St. Paul

Quote"
"We are a country of immigrants and SB 1070 is an affront to our constitution and the values we hold dear as Americans".

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman issued an order Wednesday banning city employees from traveling to Arizona to attend conferences or do business using public funds.

Coleman announced the move today in solidarity with other cities and organizations, in boycotting the State of Arizona in protest of the recent signing of SB1070 by Governor Jan Brewer.

"This law sets a dangerous example for the rest of the country. It will create a culture where racial profiling is acceptable, and will create a dangerous wedge between police officers and the communities they serve," said Coleman. "We've seen what can be done through partnering with immigrant communities and its effects on issues such as domestic violence rates, violent crime, and overall community safety."

In his statement Coleman also assailed the legislation for its roots in discrimination. "It would be immoral to not stand up in the face of a piece of legislation that is rooted in hate and fear. We are a country of immigrants and SB 1070 is an affront to our constitution and the values we hold dear as Americans. It's not worthy of who we are as a people - and it's certainly not worthy of the investment of any city dollars being spent in Arizona."

Coleman also says he will write to the chairmen of both the Democratic National Committee and the Republican National Committee to encourage them to not choose Phoenix for their national conventions, in 2012. The city is a contender for both political events.

How come everyone is so afraid of the word..."ILLEGAL" ? 'Illegal' is the key issue here, not immigration!
Why is that so hard to comprehend? illegal, illegal, illegal, illegal !!!! X( X(
It is time to STOP it!! Now we have our own states going against Arizona! I just don't get it.
Vote them governors out of office.

Yes they might pay some taxes, do you really think it will offset what we will have to give in welfare, health care and so on? They are not a wealthy area. More burdon for the Americans.

No chit E, all of our mfgs are either there or china!! I know there are quite a few in the So. Americas but we could rake in some cash by making them "states".

Puerto Rico has turned down this "offer" the last 4 times it was up for grabs... Even Regan tried to make it go....
Simply, they do not want to pay American taxes, I have no clue how in the hell we even started taking care of them, I'm sure someone else can chime in on that issue.

It is obvious the "mexican gov't." cannot control/support their own people, heck, let us give it a try... =)) =)) =))

Now this is getting serious!

Could Angry Arizona Cut Power to LA?

By Jonathan Lloyd and Robert Kovacik

updated 13 minutes ago
An Arizona utility commissioner said he's willing to pull the plug on Los Angeles if the city goes through with a boycott of his state.

In a letter to the city of LA, a member of Arizona's power commission said he would ask Arizona utility companies to cut off the power supply to Los Angeles. LA gets about 25 percent of its power from Arizona.

"That is one commissioner who has that idea -- whether he can do that or not is another idea," said LA Councilman Dennis Zine. "They are the ones who have to make the move, not us."

The commissioner's power grid play is in response to the city's approval of a resolution directing city staff to consider which contracts with Arizona can be terminated.

Here's part Arizona Corporation Commission member Gary Pierce's letter to the mayor:

If an economic boycott is truly what you desire, I will be happy to encourage Arizona utilities to renegotiate your power agreements so Los Angeles no longer receives any power from Arizona-based generation.

I am confident that Arizona’s utilities would be happy to take those electrons off your hands. If, however, you find that the City Council lacks the strength of its convictions to turn off the lights in Los Angeles and boycott Arizona power, please reconsider the wisdom of attempting to harm Arizona’s economy.
