Congress quakes as corporations threaten to drop medical plans

Number crunchers predict employers will drop coverage under ObamaCare
View all » The crackling sound you heard was employee medical plans shattering on the polished marble of Capitol hallways following ObamaCare’s passage March 25th.
“Giant sucking sounds” could be heard as the majority party drew in its collective breath and scrambled to call corporations to account for even considering abandoning employee health benefits. You see, much of the “savings” which ObamaCare promises is built on the assumption that, taxed though they will be for offering great medical coverage to employees, large corporations would never drop their healthcare plans (until much later, we imagine Democrat leaders assured the Congressional Budget Office).
But memos at AT&T, John Deere and Verizon became public, and now the truth is out. Medical benefits represent an employer’s most uncontrollable cost. AT&T need only pay $0.6 Billion dollars in penalties to drop its medical plans. It will cost them $4.7 Billion to retain and fund employee medical insurance. It’s a no-brainer.
For the full story, read the Fortune (Money) article titled, “Documents reveal AT&T, Verizon, others, thought about dropping employer-sponsored benefits.” Needless to say, Henry Waxman, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, summoned top executives for hearings and demanded they turn over confidential memos. Strangely, Waxman cancelled the hearings after reading the memos. “Could it be our Obama’s done something rash?” croons Bobby Darin in Mack the Knife.
We are left with the impression that either the Democrat-controlled Congress did not know how massively The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act would change the employment landscape, or knew and didn’t care. And the President’s promise that all who liked their plans could keep them? I have a bridge in London you can buy, if you fell for that one.
could it be Obama did something rash?

Hold on, I think they have a commission, no a committee, no a team or something that you can go to to figure that out
