Pulaski County Girl Hurt By Trout Line At Lake Cumberland
updated 2 hours 56 minutes ago 2013-08-06T23:15:25

Corbin senior Kelley Farley is back at school and getting lots of questions about the nasty injury on her neck.

She got it Sunday jet-skiing under a bridge at Pittman's Creek on Lake Cumberland in Pulaski County. She wasn't even going five miles an hour on the water when she crossed what Fish and Wildlife officials believe was a 15-20 ft trout line tied to two pillars under the bridge.

"Before I knew it the rope struck my neck. I was idling at the time. It snapped. Luckily, it snapped but it did take a toll on my neck," Farley said.

Her family and friends think there could be something more sinister about it, Fish and Wildlife officers aren't so sure.

"I'm just grateful for what it didn't do," Farley said.

The nylon string caused about an eight inch rope burn across Farley's neck. Doctors told her she's lucky.Right now, doctors aren't sure if Farley will have scarring.

"[They said] it was typical of a rope burn but deeper than that," Farley said.

Investigators say the line didn't have any hooks attached to it.Fish and wildlife officials are investigating and remind everyone to remove trout lines when they're done.
