Louie B. Nunn/Cumberland Parkway in Pulaski County reduced to one lane – each direction - beginning March 9
Reduced speed limit, double fines to be in place
Beginning Monday March 9, crews will begin making improvements on the Louie B. Nunn/Cumberland Parkway in Pulaski County - both eastbound and westbound - between mile point 72 and ending at mile point 85.
The project awarded to Hinkle Contracting Company, LLC in the amount of $8.7 million is part of a series of rehabilitation and improvement projects along the Louie B. Nunn/Cumberland Parkway corridor within the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 8 region.
Work is scheduled to be performed in two phases. Phase one, set to begin Monday March 9, will begin at mile point 72 (Russell – Pulaski County line) and end at mile point 78.35 (Exit 78) and is expected to last approximately eight weeks. Phase two, scheduled to begin approximately May 5, will begin at mile point 78.35 (Exit 78) and end at mile point 84.3 (Fishing Creek). Right travel lanes will be the first to close during each phase. Once right lanes and shoulders have been completed traffic shifts will occur and work will begin on left travel lanes. Both phases will consist of milling and paving operations along with shoulder repairs, grade, drain and ditching improvements.
Speed limits will be reduced from 70 to 55 mph through the work zone and double fines will be in effect. In addition, lane widths will be reduced to 11 feet. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes. Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to allow extra time in reaching their destinations.
Work is scheduled to be completed by September 1. The start date and duration of work may be adjusted for inclement weather or other unforeseeable delays.
