Vid most likely won't embedd so go to link at top and play from there.Officials are keeping a close eye on the Ohio River. At 11 a.m. today, the National Weather Service put the water level at 54.17 feet, which is two feet above flood state. The water is expected to continue to rise.
The bridge along on Kentucky 20 just outside of Petersburg in Boone County is now completely underwater. The City of Covington has put up barricades to prevent access to Riverside Drive. Officials say as little as 2 inches of moving water can create enough force to knock a person off their feet; 6 inches of moving water can move a parked vehicle.
The lower parking lot at B&B Riverboats in Newport is now covered in water and the river is moving quickly toward the upper parking lot. The boats have not been able to sail for awhile now because once the river gets above 47 feet, the boats cannot make it underneath bridges.
High water is also a problem this morning for a local school. Riverview East Academy in Columbia Tusculum is closed. While the school sits high on stilts to keep it dry, the parking lot is flooded. The Cincinnati Early Learning Center, a preschool in the building, is also closed today. This is the first time Riverview East has had to close because of high water since it opened in 2006.
Flooding is also a problem this morning along some other roads on the East side. Kellogg Avenue at Old Coney in Anderson Township is closed. Ironically, Sunlite Pool is underwater. Four Mile Road near Kellogg is closed as well and Eight Mile is closed where it meets Kellogg. And while Kellogg also is closed in front of Riverbend Music Center, right now there is access to River Downs Racetrack.
Local 12 Meteorologists John Gumm says for today we'll see some drizzle but then the possibility of snow showers later tonight.
