One of Lake Cumberland’s most prominent marina is in the process of changing hands. Richard Thomas, regional vice president of Anchor South Management, confirmed that Burnside Marina is currently for sale.

Anchor South, based in Knoxville, Tenn., manages Burnside Marina, which is located off West Lakeshore Drive in Burnside.

Thomas noted that there is an “interested party” but no deal has been completed as of yet and the marina has not been sold.

The repairs to Wolf Creek Dam, and resulting drop in lake level that played havoc with local tourism efforts from 2007 until last year, continue to hang like a specter over the sale, however. Thomas confirmed that Burnside Marina is currently out of its lease space due to a necessary move of the marina to accommodate the dam repair efforts.

Thomas said that issue is “being addressed shortly.” However, a number of other hurdles have already been cleared he noted.

“We had an inspection in June,” he said. “We’ve passed inspection. Everything’s been completed except for two docks that have been due for replacement because of storm damage.”

He added that the environmental inspection was passed “with excellence.”

Despite the work of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Wolf Creek Dam necessitating the changes to the marina that must now be dealt with, the Burnside Marina owners are responsible for paying that cost.

“The Corps pays for nothing,” said Thomas. “We took care of all that. We’re responsible for our part of the lease to keep the marina up.”
